![]() While the town “has a heart” for the campground tenants who are being impacted, there’s a domestic water quality concern for the town’s sake, Reynolds said. New Castle Town Manager David Reynolds also spoke during the Tuesday meeting. Samson also noted that many of the code issues with the campground predate the current owner, to the point that the state health department is also now involved. “What we have is a property owner who is in violation of his land permit, and what he’s doing is not necessarily ethical,” Jankovsky said after some tenants said they’ve continued to pay rent, and even paid several months’ worth up front.Īdded Commissioner Mike Samson, “No one blames the people who are the victims of a person who is breaking the … codes.” “The next option is to take him to court and maybe shut down the campground,” Commissioner Tom Jankovsky said, adding that a forced eviction could take months, which may buy the tenants some extra time. Multiple calls to the campground Tuesday went to a voice message with no voicemail option.Ĭommissioners sympathized with the residents, but said that ultimately the code violations need to be remedied, and currently only seasonal camping is allowed.Ĭamping is also supposed to be limited even during the allowed times to no more than 60 days, one nearby resident also pointed out. “Don’t make the rest of the neighbors suffer because of his (the owner’s) neglect and derelict.” “You guys need to consider the humanity here,” Dexter said before the commissioners. Some of the Elk Creek tenants are older, and others are families with school-aged children, he said. Some said they will have difficulty even pulling their campers or RVs out of the campground due to the ice and snow, especially under such short notice and with few or no available spaces for RVs in the area.įew campgrounds are allowed to have year-round tenants, and seasonal campgrounds don’t open until May at the earliest, Dexter added. He said he was fortunate to find a place to relocate while he is committed to work a job in the area. ![]() keep an eye on this place over the next couple years for all the improvements.Commissioners met in executive session regarding the situation Tuesday and could take legal action to revoke the permit.ĭexter, who moved into the campground last September, said he has since been able to remove his camper after chiseling the ice away from the wheels. this place is super laid-back and Dawn and Earl drive around in their cart and visit with everybody Since Dawn and Earl took over Earl has been fixing and renovating and upgrading everything in the campground it continually gets better and they’re not slowing down it’s a great hideaway right out of Glenwood Springs tucked in a small canyon it makes a great stop over place we walked over to the tent sites and they are just as good as the Rv spots and if your tent camping they have Hot showers and bathrooms and laundry area. if you were to try to book a Reservation at any of the other campgrounds they charge you for everything and you can’t have anything outside of your rig it’s ridiculous how strict they are. OK people when you read the other reviews that are bad look at the dates, this place has been under new management since April 2020 ,we were here in September Dawn and her husband Earl are super friendly this place is a great deal. They did everything they could to make us feel comfortable! They were so kind, understanding, proactive, and went above and beyond to ensure our enjoyment on a very busy weekend! We want to thank you, Beau and Family, for keeping our family’s best interest at heart! We will definitely be back, and I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for an enjoyable camping trip!… They have a building that have very clean bathrooms with showers, and running drinking water on site! A really cute campground, and felt like a little camping community! They also have spots for large RVs and log cabins you can rent! A little something for everyone to stay and enjoy! Also, the owners are AMAZING! When we had a little hiccup in the campground, they were very hands on and helpful. All of which have charging stations, picnic tables and fire rings. This campground was a hit with the family! We spent Memorial Day weekend here! The tent spots are close to each other, which was nice for multiple family camping! The river is right next to most of the tent spots. Weesgerus Holiday Resort, Caravan Park and Conference Centre.
